Freuden des Falschliegens

Freuden des Falschliegens: Getting Better at Being Wrong premiered at E-WERK, Freiburg, in February 2025. Supported by Kulturamt Freiburg, it saw the first active collaboration between Tedious Work, E-WERK and Kleiderei Freiburg (a vintage clothes shop). The performance, which focused on the joy of being wrong, presented and asked the audience to join in with our two month experiment on the topic: Paul & Leander had collected different journeys of themselves being wrong and had prepared experiments inspired by these opinion-changes. The performative actions on the stage were accompanied by a clothes “swap shop” (a very concrete situation of being wrong - in this case about taste in clothes) taking place directly on the same stage and opening exactly halfway through the performance. Audience members could then find themselves sitting in the usual theatre seating as a viewer, joining in with us for live participatory actions or (as new clothes where constantly brought into the space and on to the stage) taking themselves “clothes shopping” and trying on new outfits.

Also as one of the performative actions the happening saw the first classical guitar concert of Paul since he had sworn to never play this instrument solo again thirteen years earlier. As another action the audience tried to help us make Paul’s legacy wearable in less than twenty years and we found out that we approximately need 1000 more shows with this participatory action in it to work. We’ve added it to our life-goals list, check.
